The First LNG Storage Tank Base Slab Heating System

Frost heave protection by SECT system
JNC Engineering has developed the tank base slab heating system using SECT - Skin effect heating system- and got the first order of this system for the LNG storage tank in Taiwan.
This is the first application in the world.

Up to the present, two types of heating system are mainly employed for LNG strage tank base slab heating for frost heave protection. One is the liquid trace system and another is parallel resistance electric heating cable embedded in conduit pipe.

Comparing with these two systems, This new system using SECT can offer great advantage for cost (both initial cost and maintenance cost) and reliability.

Principle and Basic Structure

The SECT tube (heat tube) is directly buried into base slab. And a heat resistant electric cable (SECT cable) passed through the tube. When an alternating current is applied to this heat resistant cable, the induction current concentrates and flows only on the inner surface of the tube by ski effect. The tube heats by joule heat, and warms the base slab.

Special Features

◆Durable and Reliable
- Simple configuration just consiste of steel tube and single coor cupper cable.

- Heating element(steel tube) touches heating object directly. Heat transmission is fast and high power output is possible without any high temperatutre spot.

◆High Efficiency
- Maximum 20km of circuit can be heated with one power supply point. No cable connection up to 1km.
- High power output maximum 150W/m
- Heater output can be designed for each application to realize the best performance.
- Construction cost and time are much less. Less heater length, connection and material quantity.

◆Maintenance free
- Simple configuration, less component and only long life components.

◆Full Automatic Operation
